# Clamly AI and your data

> What reaches the AI when you use Clamly AI, what is deliberately left out, and what is never done with it.

When you use an AI feature, some of your content has to leave Clamly to be answered. This page says exactly what, and what happens to it.

## The short version

## What is sent, and to whom

**Your content goes to Clamly's AI provider**, which runs the model that answers. That means the text you type, the documents you upload, and the images you attach, when you use quiz generation, highlights, flashcard generation, chat, hints, reviews, note writing help, Study Pack or Study Planner.

The provider processes it only on Clamly's instructions. It keeps a copy of requests and answers for a limited time, only to detect abuse and keep the service secure. It may process them in the United States or other countries outside the EU.

**A shortened copy goes to Clamly's AI tracing provider, in the EU**: up to 4,096 characters of each request and each answer, with your account ID and timing. It is used only to find and fix failures in the AI features.

**Uploaded documents are indexed** with a search index provider in the United States, so chat can find the passages relevant to your question. The index holds passages of your document's text and is deleted when you delete the upload or your account.

## What the coach knows about you

So that Clamly Chat can act like a study coach instead of a generic chatbot, each message carries a short summary of your study activity:

* Your display name, country and study goal
* Your streak, quiz scores and recent attempts
* The titles of your classes, upcoming exams and flashcard decks

**Your to-do titles are treated more carefully**, because a to-do can name something personal, like an appointment. They are only included when your message is about planning or scheduling. Clamly checks that before the message is sent, and when the check cannot run, the titles are left out.

  Even so, a to-do or exam title is treated as study material, not as a private diary. Keep anything private out of titles.

## If a message is about something serious

If a chat message states self-harm, hopelessness or abuse, Clamly Chat answers with support and points you to real help, such as a crisis helpline. The check runs inside Clamly by matching wording, so no extra copy of your message goes anywhere for it. **Nothing about it is recorded.** Apart from the conversation itself, which is kept like any other chat, there is no note that it happened, and no one at Clamly is alerted or reads the conversation because of it.

## AI can be wrong

Everything Clamly AI writes, from quiz questions to chat replies, is generated by an AI model. It is usually right and sometimes confidently wrong. Check anything important against your course material, and tell me at [support@clamly.app](mailto:support@clamly.app) when you find a mistake.

* **A conversation:** delete it from the chat panel.
